A letter from a local

Montana’s ski town kept its manners.

Whitefish Mountain rises fifteen minutes from downtown — foggy 'snow ghost' summit trees, empty Tuesday powder, and a night-skiing glow you can see from the lake. The town below still runs on rail workers and river guides as much as tourists.

The Whitefish Trail's forty-plus miles start five minutes out; Whitefish Lake handles the paddle-and-swim season off City Beach; Glacier National Park is thirty minutes east — evening drives up the North Fork with the Livingston Range on fire are routine and never once boring. The Flathead's forks carry the fly water.

It's the rare resort town with a real Main Street, real winters, and neighbors who wave. Get here before everyone else's cousin does.
