A letter from a local

The quiet side of the Tetons.

Victor sits on the west slope of the Tetons — the 'sunny side,' locals insist — where Grand Targhee's legendary powder is thirty-five minutes up the hill and receives roughly none of Jackson's crowds. Teton Pass's backcountry starts fifteen minutes east for the earn-your-turns faithful.

The Teton River winds through the valley ten minutes away with rising cutthroat all summer; Moose Creek and the foothills singletrack roll from the edge of town; and the Big Hole Mountains fill in the gravel rides. Jackson's paychecks are over the pass; Victor's mortgages are not.

It's a farm valley becoming a mountain town at its own pace — potato fields, a drive-in theater, the Grand lit pink at sunset over all of it.
