A letter from a local
A lake the size of a sea, a town the size of a favor.
Pend Oreille is 43 miles long and over a thousand feet deep, and most mornings it's glass. I drink my coffee on the dock watching the Selkirks pink up across the water, and I still feel like I'm getting away with something. Ten thousand people, one movie theater, zero traffic lights that matter.
Schweitzer sits right above town — fifteen minutes to first chair — and skis huge for a place nobody outside Idaho can pronounce. Summer flips the switch: paddleboards off the city beach, huckleberries on the trail rides, evenings that stay light until ten.
Work here is boats, timber, a surprising little aerospace shop, and a steady stream of remote folks who did the math on what a lakefront life actually costs up here versus everywhere else. The math is rude. In your favor.
Come in late August. Swim before breakfast, ride before dinner, dock beers at dusk. Bring a sweater and your notice letter.
