A letter from a local
Forty minutes to the best snow on earth.
The math that sold me: my office to the Alta parking lot is under forty minutes up Little Cottonwood. When it storms, the Cottonwoods stack up feet of the driest snow in the country, and half the city calls in 'late.' Nobody asks questions.
Summer flips the same canyons over — granite climbing in Little Cottonwood, quartzite in Big Cottonwood, and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail runs along the foothills for miles, ten minutes from downtown. Millcreek Canyon is the after-work default; the Wasatch is basically a municipal utility.
And it's a proper city underneath — tech, healthcare, a real airport. The inversion weeks in January are the tax. You pay it, then you ski the refund.
