A letter from a local

Rogue Valley: pears, pinot, whitewater.

The Rogue is the region's bloodline — twenty-five minutes to class III water and steelhead runs, with the wild-and-scenic lower canyon downstream for the multi-day floats people plan years around. TouVelle's riffles fish twenty minutes from my door.

Prescott Park's trails climb Roxy Ann Peak right off the east side; Mt. Ashland's lifts spin forty minutes south; and Crater Lake sits ninety minutes northeast for rim rides and winter snowshoe laps. Applegate Valley wine roads carry the road bike miles.

It's the sunny, practical hub of southern Oregon — real medical-center jobs, orchard-country light, and Ashland's theaters fifteen minutes away when you want an evening indoors.
