A letter from a local
A fourteener on the skyline, sandstone in the yard.
Pikes Peak hangs over every west-facing window in this city — 14,115 feet of weather-making granite you can hike, race, or just watch turn pink at dawn. Garden of the Gods is ten minutes from downtown: free, absurd, and full of sandstone spires people fly across the country to climb.
The daily menu is deep — North Cheyenne Cañon's trails, the Manitou Incline when you need humbling (2,000 vertical feet in under a mile), Ute Valley and Palmer Park for lunch rides. Paragliders launch off the bluffs most calm evenings.
Big resort skiing is honestly a haul — budget two hours-plus to Monarch or Breck and make peace with it. Everything else about this life starts inside fifteen minutes, in a city with real military-and-aerospace paychecks.
